(כבא) כבה

כבי(כָּבָא) כָּבָה (b. h.; cmp. כאב) to grow dim, to be extinguished, go out. Sabb.21a כָּבְתָה זקוק לה if the Ḥănuckah light went out, he is bound to attend to it. Y.Yoma II, 39d קטורת שכָּבַת frankincense which went out (was not entirely burnt). Sabb.30b מוטב תִּכְבֶּה נרווכ׳ it is better that a human light (candle) be extinguished, than that Gods light (life) be extinguished; a. fr. Pi. כִּיבָּה, (כִּיבָּא) כִּבָּה to extinguish. Ib.a לא יְכַבֶּה ואם כִּבָּה פטור he must not put it out, but if he did Ib. II, 5 המְכַבֶּה את הנר he who puts the (Sabbath) lamp out. Gen. R. s. 68 (play on כי בא, Gen. 28:11) כִּיבָּא השמש (some ed. כיבה) He extinguished the sun (made the sun set earlier). Tosef.Sabb.XIII (XIV), 9 נכרי שבא לכַבּוֹת אין אומ׳ לו כַּבֵּה ואל תְּכַבֶּה if a gentile comes (on the Sabbath) to extinguish (a fire), we say to him neither ‘extinguish nor ‘do not. Gen.
